What is SPIT?

SPIT is an acronym for SPAM over IP-Telephony

Isn’t it too late to identify SPIT after the call has been set up?

The first SPAM calls can’t be blocked but are used for detection. The SPAM-caller is put on a blacklist and further calls are blocked during call setup if this procedure is activated at the service provider of the callee.

Isn’t it possible to change the identity to bypass the blacklist?

Although it could be possible (e.g. through Bot-Nets), it is not as easy to register or hijack a valid telephone extension as an e-mail account. Furthermore the System can be used to automatically track a spammer afterwards. In Germany telemarketing without permission of the callee is illegal and could thus be fined.
